Art at Sahale Learning
Center
Welcome to
Tupshin:
The Weavery
The
Weavery is a workshop studio and outdoor space, available for artistic
retreats, workshops and classes.
Using Chinook jargon, the Weavery is
called tupshin which means needle.
Tupshin mamook means to sew.
Surrounded by 68 acres of
natural beauty, the Weavery is also part of Sahale Learning Center, and
offers a rich environment to nurture the creative spirit. Gardens,
orchards, river and stream, native plant restoration, and wilderness
provide numerous places for reflection and inspiration and a broad array
of subject matter for the plein air artist.
The Workshop Studio
The Workshop Studio is a dedicated space
for
fiber arts and
fine arts. The studio is
approximately 500 square feet, with good lighting
and plenty of
electrical outlets. It is designed to accommodate groups of about
10 people for quilting, other fiber arts, and fine art. Additional space
is available on the second floor of this two story building as well as
an attached covered outdoor area.
Housing
The Weavery campus comfortably houses up to 12, in two buildings
the main house (Tum Tum) and Homestead Cabin, while the Sahale
Learning Center has additional housing for up to 35 people plus camping.
Room and board costs are reasonable.
Meals and Cooking Facilities
Quality meal service is available or guests
may cook for themselves in one of two kitchens.
Location
On the Tahuya River, one hour from Gig Harbor.
