True Holidays Celebration December 6, 2008
Greetings! I invite you to the 2008 True Holidays Campaign Celebration and introduce you to this event’s sponsor, the Village without Walls. This year the True Holidays Campaign celebrates Compassion with our ‘program’ arising from our mutual creativity as we share our reasons for having Compassion in today’s world. It will be an energetic and interactive evening for all ages and faiths. This seasonal campaign was started more than fifteen years ago by friends, who were concerned about how easy it is to get caught up in the holiday routine, but lose its meaning. They wished to improve the holiday season by reducing materialism/consumerism, by valuing relationships with friends and family, and by reminding themselves of the insights from many spiritual traditions at this time of year. I invite you and your group or community to take this opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the upcoming holiday times. Please see the attached flyer for more details of time and place. The Village without Walls, which is sponsoring the True Holidays Celebration, is a creative collaboration among groups and individuals who value a context for community-oriented work and play. Our experience is that the skills and values of a shared, communitarian life can be learned and applied to any number of groups, neighborhoods, and shared living situations. We know that our world today needs responsible and mature adults to pass on to our children the skills of cooperation, non-violent communication, and responsible lifeways for a sustainable world. A responsible, compassionate and proactive adult strengthens and learns these qualities over a lifetime. With this broad definition of community, the Village is intended to be a community of communities, each manifesting its version of the compassionate human community. Please join us individually or as a group or community in the Village without Walls and lend your vision and energy towards celebrating the Compassion that we know is a gift of community in all our lives. If you have any questions or would like to have a conversation about how you can make this a rich experience for yourself, please call or email either Bruce or me. We would be happy to come talk with your group about the Village without Walls and the True Holidays Campaign.
