
Sahale Learning Center Policies
In general
The Sahale Learning Center is a property at 2901 NE Tahuya River Rd, Tahuya, WA 98588, owned and operated by The Goodenough Community, a Washington state 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Anyone on the property must abide by these policies. Any and all other Goodenough Community policies, rules, regulations, etc., as well as all local, state, and federal laws, must be followed while on the property. We reserve the right to ask guests to leave at any time for any reason.
Use at your own risk
Sahale property is rural and rugged, with rustic facilities. Developed areas still contain many hazards. Stairs, as well as uneven and unpaved (rough) surfaces, driveways, and paths, are common. Undeveloped areas include other hazards such as brush and downed branches and logs. You are responsible for traversing and engaging with the facilities and landscape safely. Also be aware that the closest urgent care facility is at least a 30 min drive away, and the closest hospital is at least a 50 min drive away.
Rural hazards and health concerns
Hazards on the property include ticks that may carry Lyme disease, poison oak, and various wild animals. You are responsible for protecting yourself from these hazards.
Mold and mildew might be present. We do our best to mitigate this, but people sensitive to mold may find the environment challenging.
Do not consume any plants, berries, mushrooms, etc. on the property without full knowledge of what it is and that it is edible. Consume anything on the property at your own risk.
Hot tub, pond, and river
Use any of these areas at your own risk. There is no lifeguard at any location.

Hot tub: Read and follow the posted rules at the hot tub.

Pond: Do not swim in the pond due to wildlife dangers. Boating on the pond is permitted.

River: Do not swim or wade in the river when salmon are present.
Limited mobility
People with minor mobility issues will need to be cautious but should be able to navigate independently or with minimal assistance. People with moderate to major mobility issues should contact Sahale or Event Organizers for more information before deciding to come.
Some accommodations and areas are more accessible to people with limited mobility than others. People with limited mobility are permitted to use vehicles on the property to get around.
Smoking and Fire safety
Smoking and vaping:
No smoking or vaping of anything, in any form, inside any building. Avoid smoking or vaping outside on paths or driveways, or in other areas that are frequented by others. Do not smoke in places where flames or embers could ignite grass or foliage. Dispose of butts or ashes in a fire safe container.
No open flames or burning! Everyone must follow strict fire safety rules:

Open flames of any kind are not allowed anywhere on the property, indoors or outdoors, including but not limited to fires and candles.

Any open flames are only allowed in areas designated by Sahale, when closely monitored by Sahale personnel or event organizers, and only if permitted by Mason County Burn Restrictions.

No burning of incense, sage, or similar, outdoors or indoors, without permission from Sahale, and must be closely monitored by event organizers.

Do not smoke in any place where flames or embers could ignite grass or foliage. Dispose of butts or ashes in a fire safe container.
Neighbor relations
We know many of our neighbors and have not experienced any threats or danger from anyone. However, it is not uncommon for people to shoot guns on their property for hunting or recreation.
Anyone at Sahale should not go onto neighboring property without permission from the property owners, and must be conscientious of their impact on our neighbors, particularly regarding noise, so that we can maintain good relationships with them.
Other policies

Quiet hours: Sahale quiet hours are between 11pm and 7am.

Photos and video: Do not take photos or videos of others without their consent.

Pets: Pets and emotional support animals are not allowed. Service Animals conforming to ADA guidelines are allowed.

Weapons: Firearms or any other weapons (i.e. objects designed with the intent to harm others) are not allowed.

Intoxication: Any use of legal intoxicants must be done responsibility and in such a way that it does not result in behavior that negatively impacts others or the property.

EV charging: We do not offer EV charging, except in emergency situations (i.e. to allow someone to make it to the closest charging station.) The closest charging stations are in Belfair, about 14 miles.

Laundry facilities: Laundry facilities are not available to guests except with permission.
Code of Conduct
Anyone at Sahale is expected to follow these guidelines:
